Paul Schmitz, MD

After completing his training in Nephrology and Hypertension at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Schmitz relocated to Saint Louis where he served as a tenured Professor of Medicine at Saint Louis University for nearly two decades. During this time, he received funding from the National Institutes of Health, American Heart Association, National Kidney Foundation, and American Diabetes Association. Currently, he is a Fellow in the American Society of Nephrology, American Heart Association, and American Society of Hypertension.

He is delighted to be joining Colorado Kidney Care in 2019 and reuniting with several of his former students and fellows. He looks forward to continuing his clinical practice and educational initiatives, especially in the area of high blood pressure diagnosis and adjunctive therapy with omega-3 fatty acids. He has published extensively in these areas, but also is an expert renal physiologist and has in-depth knowledge of fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base disorders.

He has various interests outside of medicine, including, reading about American history, nature photography, hiking, biking, golf, and cross-country skiing. Being unable to shake his Chicago roots, he is a die-hard Chicago sports fan.
